Maxon Receives Computer Graphics World Magazine "Silver Edge Award" at SIGGRAPH 2016 Company's Cinema 4D Release 18 Selected as "Best of Show' for Technology and Vision that Promises to Greatly Impact the Industry

Newbury Park, CA - August 22, 2016 -- Maxon is pleased to announce Cinema 4D Release 18 (R18), the next generation of its industry-leading 3D animation, graphics, VFX, and visualization software, has been honored with the prestigious Computer Graphics World Magazine (CGW) Silver Edge Award. Cinema 4D R18, introduced at SIGGRAPH 2016 -- the leading annual conference and exhibition dedicated to computer graphics and interactive techniques now in its 43rd year -- earned the designation of 'best of show' given to companies whose technologies and vision are considered to have the potential to greatly impact the industry.

Serving the CG industry exclusively for the past 40 years, CGW is the foremost publication providing in-depth editorial coverage of the cutting-edge technology used in the latest animation, VFX, 3D, game development, film, CAD and medical industry.

CGW Chief Editor Karen Moltenbrey explains that the new Cinema 4D R18 release featuring enhancements to the MoGraph toolset, including the new Voronoi Fracture object and object tracking within the motion tracker, and other new features were deemed award-worthy.

"The Silver Edge Awards are not given to 'the most popular' but rather 'the most inventive' or those showing 'the most potential' for the industry," explains Moltenbrey. "As expected, I was introduced to some amazing things at this year's show. Of course, there were some brand-new offerings - some from newly formed companies and some from those that are leaders in the industry and have been for quite some time. Among them is Maxon, which continues to add innovative and much-needed features and functions to its Cinema 4D, making it one of the industry's must-have products," she adds. This year marks the fourth time Maxon has been a Silver Edge Award recipient.

At SIGGRAPH, Maxon showcased the new features in Cinema 4D R18 highlighted by the new Voronoi Fracture object that allows artists to break apart objects in a variety of ways to create exciting effects; interactive knife tools that enable users to draw lines across a model with interactive preview, then lock in new edges or split based on the cut; object motion tracking that gives artists accessibility to dynamic VFX and visualization workflows with expanded tools for integrating 3D into real-world footage, and many others. Outstanding projects created with Cinema 4D were presented by some of today's most accomplished 3D artists at the Maxon exhibit booth and are currently archived and available on Cineversity.

"Maxon remains committed to improving customer workflow and productivity and is delighted that CGW, the editorial authority catering to animation and computer graphics professionals, has recognized the latest Cinema 4D technology with this year's Silver Edge Award," says Paul Babb, president and CEO, Maxon US. "With advances and growing public interest in areas such as virtual reality, augmented reality, digital signage and more, we are excited by the enthusiastic response for R18 from the worldwide community of 3D artists and industry at-large."

Cinema 4D R18 is scheduled for release September 2016. (Note: Maxon will debut R18 for the first time in Europe at IBC 2016, September 9-12, at the RAI Amsterdam, Hall 7, Booth K30.) A complete list of feature highlights in R18 is available here.
