The Euro Mouse - Treasure Hunting in Pirate Country With CINEMA 4D!

All hands on deck! The two-man Viennese design team from EGGTION cast off to create an animation of Europapark's mascot for the Swiss publisher, WG. EGGION's Mark Beckmann and Nina Markiewicz used CINEMA 4D and its MOCCA module to create a 3D animated intro for the PC game, Die Euro-Maus im Piratenland (Euro Mouse in Pirate Country).

A sketched CINEMA 4D draft was used as a base for modeling, texturing, rigging and animating the courageous Euro Mouse pirate who then cast off in search of treasure.

The allotted production time for this project was tight. Only three weeks were planned for the creation of the entire intro, including rendering. Thanks to CINEMA 4D's intuitive set of tools the pirate was modeled record time.

Although this was the EGGTION team's first animation project using MOCCA, its new and powerful Joint System proved to be very flexible and easy to learn. Together with the new character tools the mouse could be set up quickly and easily and was soon ready to conquer the treasure island.



The pirate mouse was given a number of accessories, including clothing, boots and the obligatory pirate's sword - a clear case for MOCCA's Constraint Tag, which let all objects be linked to and moved with the figure. MoGraph Deformers were used to match the shoulder belt to the animated figure.

Not only the animated character was created using CINEMA 4D but the entire scenery as well:
A small island in an undulant ocean with palm trees animated using XPresso; an authentic pirate's treasure; and of course a real mouse's pirate ship was also created.

"We knew the timetable was tight but we drew on our years of experience using CINEMA 4D and were confident CINEMA 4D would once again live up to its reputation. Its intuitive interface and fast workflow are what convince us again and again that choosing CINEMA 4D as our tool of choice was the right decision - even if we started our careers using other 3D packages. Many new functions included in the new MOCCA 3 have really impressed us, whether it's the Joint System, the Weighting Tool or the Constraints. It is paramount that artists have the feeling that their software packages further their work - and this feeling is exactly what CINEMA 4D offers us."
