MTV Robo
Creating a TV spot for an exclusive MTV mobile phone game
![]() ![]() ![]() |
MTV contacted Kay Tenneman for the production of a TV spot, barely a week before the spot itself had to be finished. After taking a look at the storyboard provided by MTV, it was clear to Kay that rendering and compositing alone would take up half the available production time. This project would be a tight fit for a 30-second spot. But thanks to the experience made in the past with CINEMA 4D, Kay and his team decided to tackle the project.
Fortunately, the robot had already been modeled in advance. While Kay worked on the scene setup, environment and animation, Matthias Bober rigged the robot. This was the first time the artists had used the new CINEMA 4D release 9.5. They made extensive use of the new Ambient Occlusion functionality featured in R9.5. Thanks to CINEMA 4D's excellent layer management system which allows easy compositing, and its infamously fast renderer, this project was able to be completed on time - and this on Kay's comparatively small render farm, consisting of only three computers.Info
