Virtual Theme Park

The Hannover Zoo Plans to Expand Its Theme Park With "Yukon Bay", a 25-Hectare Alaskan Landscape.

An appealing marketing tool was needed to attract sponsors to cover at least part of the 25 million euro needed for the construction of this project. It was decided that a 3D visualization would be created to market "Yukon Bay". This became the first project 4D-CAD would create using CINEMA 4D.

The architecture office of Dan Pearlman provided plans which 4D-CAD used to breathe digital life into "Yukon Bay". The 3D visualization made it possible to walk through the virtual theme park, and made it possible to plan further construction of the park in advance.

Klaus Michael Machens, director of the Hannover zoo said, "This was the first project where we had such a realistic virtual environment through which we could walk and check the quality of the entire project."

The virtual theme park became part of an interactive DVD, which includes a 10-minute animation, numerous hi-res images and panoramic views.

The DVD can be purchased directly from the Hannover zoo.

Making of:
2D plans, moods and sketches served as reference for the 3D visualization (Dan Pearlman).

With these sources of reference at hand, the modeling of the landscapes and the planting of the trees in CINEMA 4D could begin. The various buildings were designed using CAD applications and imported to CINEMA 4D where they were integrated into the landscape.

After various scenes and setups had been completed, numerous animations were created and rendered with CINEMA 4D.
Because the 3D visualization and the theme park design were done concurrently, production lasted 9 months.
