"For Digital artists this is an impressively powerful, easy-to-use and brilliantly designed package. And it's now much faster."
"What exactly does R11 bring to the party? A heck of a lot"
The review highlights a wide array of new features including: "64-bit support, vastly improved rendering speeds, optimized render control settings, new Global Illumination (in Advanced Render module), animation ghosting, new Doodle tool, non-linear animation, COLLADA support, CineMan support, support for 3D Connexion devices (Mac and Windows)" and "enhanced PSD support."
"Chief among R11's new and improved powers is its 64-bit support for Apple's Leopard OS. This involved the entire package being completely rebuilt on the Cocoa platform, which stabilizes performance for large projects - a huge production tweak that's enormously welcome."
"Also new is MAXON's Projection Man matte painting system. This was developed by MAXON for Sony Pictures Imageworks and supports the COLLADA file format and CineMan - pro-level RenderMan-compliant format- which is used in blockbuster movies. So far so powerful."
Regarding BodyPaint 3D (MAXON's powerful suite of 3D painting and UV editing tools, which is included with CINEMA 4D R11), Imagine FX said "...it's now much faster, facilitating real-time painting and preview on a par with outright painting applications. What's more, new brush importing grows the app's feature set considerably, while direct Wacom and improved PSD support only goes to strengthen BodyPaint [3D]'s appeal for digital artists."
Imagine FX sums up: "Overall, for users working in 3D painting and illustration, there's very little reason not to upgrade or move right on over to CINEMA 4D R11. BodyPaint 3D alone is a more than adequate painting environment, and worth the price of admission alone, while the mainstay application is pretty unrivaled as a 3D package."
