Forging Ahead with CINEMA 4D

From product design to functional animation of a forge press.

What's the best way to present a forge press to potential customers when its sheer size makes it nearly impossible to simply take it on the road? You grab visualization specialists who use CINEMA 4D to get the job done. The CINEMA 4D specialists at lintje visual services were given the job of creating a visualization of the Ecopress EP 2500 for the manufacturer SMS MEER.

"It quickly became clear that the complex processes inside the press could not be animated using a simple keyframe animation. Therefore we decided to "re-create" the press using CINEMA 4D's XPresso. This also made it easier to establish various concepts for the decision-making process", explains Henning Weidhase, managing director at lintje.

The team got started, using XPresso to animate the feeding of the component parts for forging, testing camera flights to key components and animating various forge cycles. Compositing in After Effects helped to create segments that better demonstrated processes inside the forge.

"This project taught us more than simply how such a forge press works. We also learned that logos should be rendered in a separate channel. The name of the manufacturer had changed during production so that all renderings that showed the manufacturer's logo had to be re-rendered in the end." explains Henning with a smile.
